Learning new things: Water Colours

Hi all!

I started taking water colour lessons about six weeks ago. Every two weeks there’s an evening filled with learning more about the methods in making this fine area of art. I can tell you this is something that needs practise.. and a lot of it. :)

Here are a few of my first paintings. I decided to put them here on my blog even though I’m clearly not mastering the art yet.. Anyway.. practise makes all the difference and I’m having fun each time learning. Can’t wait for the next lesson. :)

About Micke Nikander

Hi! I'm a graphic designer and artist from Finland. I like creating pictures from scratch as much as documenting the wonders of the world through a lens. No, actually I like drawing more.. :) -Micke

  1. Maria

I think you are starting mastering it!!! I love your work! Keep learning like that it’s admirable ;)

  2. Hi Micke They look gorgeous! Looking forward to more of your water colour paintings.

  3. They´re all beautiful, keep it up!

  4. The second painting is the winner; the stark orange line across the horizon, the watery reflection, and the prominent, yet not ominous clouds, all very nicely done.

  5. These don’t look like beginner work. Watercolor has many unique challenges, even just learning how to control the water on the brush and on the paper. The background behind the bear is really interesting. It’s like an abstracted forest. :)

    • Hi! Thanks for commenting. I’ve done some water colour pieces also before but with only dry paper which makes them seem maybe a bit less “water coloury” (if that’s even a term). :)

The background of the bear was made with cling film put on wet paint. It truly is meant to look like a forest. :)
