[di:unru:] gig poster (making of)

Hi all!

The Band [di:unru:] has been happy with my work so far so I got to do another poster for them for a gig in Kotka 15th of February featuring the band Trigger Happy.

The basic idea was to create something in the poster that symbolises two different styles of music. I wont go to details about how I ended up in the subjects featured in the poster because there isn’t a way to describe that.. Let’s say it just popped into mind. :)

But I can tell you a little about the process of making the poster..

Step 1:

I drew a preliminary sketch of the image on an A4 with a pencil. You can see there are lines that aren’t so steady and overlap each other..

Step 2:

I did a rough colouring with a thick black pen to both save time and ink.

Step 3:

I drew the outlines of the drawing with a 0,1 black pen and filled in the “blanks” between the outlines and the rough colouring with a 0,3 pen. After that I erased the pencil marks.

Step 4:

I added shading using thin lines with the 0,1 pen to give the drawing some dimension.

Step 5:

After scanning the drawing I did the colouring in Photoshop. Using a separate layer for each colour I could tweak them individually to balance them up. It’s quite hard to get the colours right otherwise. Last, I added some rugged feeling to the image using an image of old paper in the background. The logos are the bands’ original logos and the font used in this I found from Google Web Fonts.

And here is the final poster.. :)
